Hospital de Câncer de Barretos, hospital in Brazil
The Hospital de Câncer de Barretos is a large medical facility in Barretos, Brazil, specializing in cancer treatment and prevention. The complex spans more than 200,000 square meters and includes diagnostic centers, radiotherapy units, operating rooms, and specialized departments for various cancer types.
The facility began in 1962 as a small institution called Hospital São Judas Tadeu focused on general medical care. After the Pio XII Foundation took over in 1967, the focus shifted to cancer treatment, and a major expansion in the 1990s led to the opening of new pavilions with modern equipment.
The hospital was renamed Hospital de Amor in 2017 to reflect its commitment to humanized care that addresses emotional and psychological needs alongside medical treatment. Visitors experience a place where volunteers are present daily to support patients and families throughout their journey.
The facility is designed to be functional and accessible for all, with spaces that make it easier for patients to navigate. Beyond the main site in Barretos, there are several branch units in other states, as well as accommodations for patients who need to stay nearby during treatment.
The hospital operates a fleet of mobile units that travel throughout Brazil to conduct early detection and screening. These buses enable people in remote areas to receive testing and be referred to the main hospital for full treatment if needed.
