Serra da Piedade, Religious summit in Caeté, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Serra da Piedade rises 1,746 meters (5,728 feet) above sea level within the Espinhaço geological formation. The summit holds both religious structures and an astronomical observatory at this altitude.
The first records trace back to 1673 when explorer Fernão Dias searched for silver in the region. It was then known as Serra de Sabarabuçu before taking its current name.
The winding road features 15 tile panels showing stations of the cross, weaving religious art into the natural landscape. People use this path as a spiritual journey, where faith and nature come together.
Access is via a 6-kilometer steep climb on the MG-435 highway, where parking and facilities are available. Visitors should prepare for elevation gain and a demanding climb before reaching the top.
The site houses an astronomical observatory alongside religious buildings, creating a rare blend of scientific research and spiritual space. This combination allows visitors to explore both sky and faith in one location.
