Praia da Ferradurinha, Beach cove in Búzios, Brazil
Praia da Ferradurinha is a small beach cove in Búzios stretching about 260 meters, with fine white sand sheltered by rocky hills on either side. The water here remains shallow close to shore, making it a calm bathing spot with good visibility into the sea.
The cove grew from a fishing settlement into a tourist destination during the 1960s expansion of Búzios as a holiday resort. This shift brought new visitors while fishing families adapted their livelihoods to serve both locals and tourists.
Fishing shacks line the shore, reflecting generations of maritime tradition in this coastal village. Local fishers still maintain their daily routines here, offering glimpses into how people have lived from the sea for decades.
Visitors reach this beach via a five-minute walk from the eastern end of Geribá Beach. The path involves some stairs and uneven terrain, so wear suitable shoes and allow extra time if you have mobility concerns.
The natural shape of this cove creates a sheltered bay where water stays remarkably calm even on rougher days elsewhere. This protection makes it one of the few spots along the coast where conditions remain stable year-round.

Brazil's coastline stretches over 4,600 miles (7,400 kilometers), connecting tropical forests, sandbars, and several climate zones. In Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana and Ipanema draw visitors with their urban energy, while Fernando de Noronha offers bays shaped by marine life and volcanic rock. Further north, palm trees and dunes define the scenery in Ceará, where Jericoacoara is known for kitesurfing. Bahia holds Praia do Espelho and Taipus de Fora, where coral reefs and tidal pools give snorkelers refuge. Santa Catarina and São Paulo combine wave breaks with rainforest trails leading to remote beaches like Praia dos Castelhanos. Pernambuco and Alagoas feature warm, calm waters and natural pools that form at low tide, including Porto de Galinhas and Maragogi. In the north, Alter do Chão on the Tapajós River creates a freshwater beach surrounded by Amazon vegetation. Each region shows different tides, currents, and ecosystems, from sheltered lagoons to open Atlantic shores.
