The site developed from a strategic observation post used by Portuguese settlers during colonial times to monitor the Brazilian coast. Its natural elevation and position made it ideal for maritime surveillance and protection.
Local fishermen use this location to observe sea conditions and plan their daily work. The viewpoint is more than a tourist attraction for them—it is part of their working life and connection to the water.
The site is located about 2 km from downtown Arraial do Cabo at the tip of a headland, so it is best reached by car. The best time to visit is late afternoon when the light highlights the colors of the water and rocks beautifully.
The location is known for dolphins and occasionally whales appearing in the waters offshore, especially during certain seasons. Visitors with patience can watch these marine mammals from the rock formations.
