Pico Pedra Azul

Pico Pedra Azul is a 1,822-meter mountain in Espírito Santo with granite and gneiss rock formations, natural pools, and waterfalls along its slopes. The peak sits within a protected state park that encompasses 1,240 hectares of Atlantic Forest.

The state park protecting the mountain was established in 1991 through legislation that safeguarded this Atlantic Forest landscape. This designation came as efforts grew to preserve the region's natural heritage from further damage.

The mountain serves as a vital water source for the Greater Vitória region, with springs feeding into the Jucu River system that locals depend on daily. This role shapes how people in surrounding communities relate to the peak and value its protection.

Hikes require planning one day in advance, and trail access is limited to between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The site is open Tuesday through Sunday, so advance coordination helps ensure a successful visit.

The mountain's surface shifts color throughout the day as sunlight hits its mineral-rich rocks, revealing shades of blue, green, and yellow. This optical effect stems from the minerals in the stone and creates a different visual experience at each visit.
