Pico do Sol

Pico do Sol is a mountain summit in Serra do Gandarela National Park that reaches 1,313 meters and dominates the surrounding landscape. The terrain features rocky formations and mountain grasslands, allowing sweeping views across multiple ranges and valleys below.

The summit belongs to the ancient Espinhaço mountain range, which formed during the Precambrian period and shaped the geology of eastern Brazil. This ancient formation continues to define the region's landscape and structure today.

The place serves as a gathering point for hikers and nature lovers who share knowledge about local trails and mountain ecology. Communities in the region have long used these routes as part of their relationship with the land and its seasonal changes.

Reaching the summit requires hiking a steep trail of about 5.7 kilometers that is best done with a local guide. Water sources are limited along the route, so bring enough water and start early to complete the climb comfortably.

Natural springs emerge at the summit and feed the Cascatinha waterfall, creating an unexpected water source at high elevation. This phenomenon is rare in the region and makes the location distinctive for mountain hydrology.
