Kalasasaya, Temple complex in Tiwanaku, Bolivia.

The Kalasasaya features an expansive courtyard measuring 120 by 130 meters, surrounded by sandstone pillars and blocks of ashlar masonry walls.

The temple structure, constructed between 200 BCE and 200 CE, served as a central ceremonial space within the pre-Columbian Tiwanaku civilization near Lake Titicaca.

The name derives from Aymara language words 'kala' meaning stone and 'saya' meaning standing up, reflecting the architectural style of erected stone blocks.

Visitors can access the temple complex through a monumental staircase leading to the eastern wall entrance, with guided tours available from La Paz.

The structure contains precise astronomical alignments and houses the Gateway of the Sun, displaying intricate carvings of ancient Andean deities and calendrical elements.
