The Candeias Oil Well C-1 reaches deep into the earth, marking the location where petroleum first flowed commercially in Brazilian territory.
Drilling operations at Candeias C-1 began on April 2, 1941, leading to the discovery of Brazil's first commercial oil field on December 13, 1941.
The discovery of oil in Candeias transformed the region from a small fishing village into an industrial center, attracting workers from across Brazil.
The well produced 75 barrels of oil per day during its initial operation and remained active until March 1966, supporting local industrial development.
A monument stands next to the well, commemorating the first oil workers who established the foundation of Brazil's petroleum industry.
