Our Lady of Grace Cathedral, Baroque cathedral in Cidade Velha, Brazil
The Metropolitan Cathedral features two symmetrical bell towers, a neoclassical facade, and intricate stone carvings that extend across its principal entrance.
Construction of the current cathedral building began in 1748 under Italian architect Antonio Landi, replacing an earlier wooden structure from 1616.
The cathedral holds a central role during the Cirio de Nazare festival, where it receives the statue of Our Lady of Nazareth before the main procession.
Visitors can attend daily masses at the cathedral, located in the historic district near the Forte do Presepio fortress and the Episcopal Palace.
The cathedral houses a French organ manufactured by Aristide Cavaille-Coll, which stands as the largest instrument of its kind in Latin America.
