State Historical Museum of Pará, History museum in Cidade Velha district, Belém, Brazil.
The State Historical Museum of Pará occupies the Palácio dos Governadores and features exhibition spaces across two floors with regional artifacts and historical documents. The rooms display paintings, period furniture, photographs, and objects that chronicle the development of Pará state.
The museum was established in 1981 and initially operated at Centro Cultural Tancredo Neves before relocating in 1986 to Palacete Bolonha. It subsequently moved to its current location in a building that once served as the seat of government.
The building takes its name from its former role as the governors' seat, a function visible in its grand architecture. Visitors encounter artworks that reveal how people in this region lived, worked, and built their communities over time.
The museum sits at Praça Dom Pedro II in the city center and welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours available. It is easily reached on foot from the riverfront and makes a good stop while walking through the historic district.
The institution houses two specialized galleries, Manoel Pastana and Antonio Parreiras, that feature rotating exhibitions alongside the permanent collection. These spaces offer visitors the opportunity to discover changing artworks and perspectives that shift throughout the year.
