Bodocó, Municipality in Sertão region, Pernambuco, Brazil.
Bodocó is a municipality in the Sertão region of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. It covers roughly 1,621 square kilometers of dry Caatinga shrubland at an elevation of about 443 meters and is home to approximately 38,000 people.
The settlement began in the early 20th century when Antonio Peixoto de Barros founded a community on land that then belonged to Granito municipality. The area gained independence and became its own municipality in 1924.
The name comes from either a water plant that once grew abundantly in the region or from the indigenous Bodorocos people who lived here. This heritage still shapes how locals understand their community today.
The main government offices and public services are located downtown on Avenida Floriano Peixoto. Walking around the center is a good way to navigate the town, as most of the key areas are within easy reach on foot.
The local economy blends livestock farming with goats, sheep, and cattle alongside honey production. Agriculture also focuses on corn and manioc crops that thrive in the region's dry soils.
