Parambu

Parambu is a municipality in Ceará located in the Sertões Cearenses mesoregion of northeastern Brazil, sitting at approximately 500 meters in elevation. The area is shaped by several reservoirs, including the açudes Parambu, Espírito Santo, and Monte Sion, which collect water that supports farming throughout the region.

The area shows remains from the colonial period, including the ruins of Cococi, a settlement founded by the Feitosa family in the 18th century. These remnants document early European settlement and development of the region.

The regional dance of São Gonçalo continues in local farms, incorporating traditional instruments such as rabeca, sanfona, and viola for performances. This form of expression remains deeply connected to the rural identity of the area.

The best time to explore the area is during the drier months when the reservoirs are visible and trails are easily accessible. Roads to the municipality are generally passable, but visitors should be prepared for local weather conditions.

Within the Serra dos Cariris Novos lies the archaeological site of Coroncó, containing prehistoric artifacts that document the lives of earlier inhabitants. These findings show the region was settled long before European arrival.
