Puente Metálico João Luis Ferreira, Railway bridge in Teresina, Brazil.

The metallic structure stretches 451 meters across the Parnaiba River, connecting Teresina in Piaui state with Timon in Maranhao state.

The bridge, designed by German engineer Germano Franz, opened on December 2, 1939, after 17 years of construction using 702 tons of iron.

In 2008, the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage declared this engineering structure as part of Brazilian cultural heritage.

The bridge supports approximately 65,000 vehicles daily and serves both railway transport and the Teresina Metro system, linking two state capitals.

Before the construction of this first bridge over the Parnaiba River in Piaui state, people crossed between cities using canoes.
