Port of Luís Correia, Maritime terminal in Luís Correia, Brazil
Port of Luís Correia is a maritime facility on Brazil's northeastern coast designed to handle ships up to 60 meters long. The facility has specialized terminals for grain and green hydrogen, serving both agricultural producers and renewable energy projects.
Construction began in the 1970s but faced multiple interruptions over decades before finally opening in December 2023. This lengthy development process reflects the infrastructure challenges of bringing a major port to this remote area.
The port marks a turning point for Piauí, being the first maritime export route that directly connects the state to international buyers. This has fundamentally opened new opportunities for local producers to reach markets beyond Brazil.
The port is easily accessible via the coastal town of Luís Correia and offers clear access routes for different transport types. Keep in mind this is an active working facility, so access to operational areas may be restricted for safety reasons.
The European Union has committed major funding toward green hydrogen production directly connected to the port's operations. This positions the region as an emerging center for renewable energy development in South America.
