Tatajuba, Beach in Ceará, Brazil
Tatajuba is a beach along the Ceará coast with white sand and coconut palms, where the Morro Branco dune forms the highest formation on this stretch of shore. The area consists of several small settlements spread across the beachfront.
The original village was completely relocated when shifting sand dunes buried the old settlement, leaving only rooftops visible beneath the sand. The communities that exist today were established at new locations further along the coast.
Fishing remains central to daily life here, and you can watch craftspeople using traditional methods in their work. These practices shape how the communities live and interact with the sea.
Getting there requires a drive over sandy terrain by four-wheel drive vehicle and a river crossing, so be prepared for challenging road conditions. It helps to plan ahead and consider hiring local guides who know the routes well.
There are several natural lagoons with clear water in this area, located within a protected zone, and they offer a quieter experience away from the shore. These lagoons are less visited than the beach itself but worth exploring.
