Mother Church of São José de Ribamar

Built in the early 18th century when Aquiraz served as the provincial capital, this church stands as the second oldest religious structure in Ceará state.

The main altar displays a statue of Saint Joseph wearing captain-major attire, reflecting the dress code of regional governors from colonial times.

The church maintains regular mass schedules and welcomes visitors to explore its architectural elements, including the original entrance doors and painted ceiling panels.

Local fishermen discovered the statue of Saint Joseph on a nearby beach, and according to stories, it became light enough to carry only when destined for Aquiraz.
