Mother Church of São José de Ribamar

The Mother Church of São José de Ribamar is a Portuguese colonial church in Aquiraz featuring two square towers topped with octagonal pyramid roofs. The interior showcases exposed wooden beams in the main nave and painted ceiling panels that reveal the builders' attention to detail.

The church was built in the early 1700s when Aquiraz served as the provincial capital and a key administrative center. It stands as the second oldest religious structure in Ceará state.

The main altar displays a statue of Saint Joseph dressed as a colonial administrator, connecting religious devotion to local political power. This choice of representation shows how the community blended spiritual faith with their respect for authority figures.
