Vechernyaya Base, Research station at Vechernyaya Mountain, East Antarctica
Vechernyaya Base is a research station situated on a mountainside in East Antarctica, positioned roughly 28 kilometers from the nearest neighboring facility. The installation sits at just under 95 meters in elevation and overlooks the coastline of the Cosmonauts Sea.
The station was founded in October 2015, following the country's signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 2006 and its recognition as the 30th member of COMNAP. This approval opened the way for establishing a scientific presence on the continent.
The research station brings together scientists from Belarus who conduct studies on Earth's climate, focusing on ozone layer and atmospheric gas composition.
The facility accommodates roughly seven scientists during the warmer months and closes during winter. Regular supply flights keep the station functioning and support ongoing maintenance of its infrastructure.
International inspectors evaluated the station in August 2020, confirming its compliance with scientific research protocols and environmental protection standards.
