Inkamana Abbey, Benedictine abbey in Vryheid, South Africa
Inkamana Abbey sits on extensive grounds in KwaZulu-Natal Province with a monastery building from 1949 and a church consecrated in 1953. The compound also houses a school that has welcomed students from across South Africa for more than a century.
The monastic community began as a mission station in 1922 when the Benedictine Congregation of St. Ottilien received permission to conduct missionary work in Natal. This establishment marked the start of a lasting religious and educational presence in the region.
