The Ranch Resort, resort in South Africa
The Ranch Resort is a four-star hotel in Limpopo Province, south of Polokwane, set within a broad bushveld landscape. It offers air-conditioned rooms and self-catering chalets alongside conference spaces, swimming pools, and a private grass airstrip for small aircraft.
The resort was founded in May 1960 as a rest stop for travelers moving between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Over the decades, the Shearer family developed it into a conference and leisure destination, opening a golf course on the grounds in 2010.
The name of the resort reflects its origins as a stop along a key travel route, and the Shearer family's personal mark on the place is still felt today. Staff tend to the grounds with care, giving the stay a warm and personal feel.
The resort sits south of Polokwane and is easy to reach from the N1 or R101 highways, making it a natural stop on long drives through South Africa. Those arriving by small aircraft can land directly on the private grass airstrip, while the large grounds are most easily explored by car.
More than 30 lions live on the grounds and have appeared in films such as The Gods Must Be Crazy and King Solomon's Mines. This means parts of the resort have served as actual film sets, something most guests only discover once they are already there.
