Ganga Talao

This crater lake sits at about 700 meters elevation and is surrounded by hillsides covered in thick vegetation where several temples stand. The water's edge features various religious structures that give the landscape its distinctive character.

A Hindu priest from India arrived in the early 1900s and connected this lake to the spiritual significance of the Ganges River. This transformed the location into a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus across Mauritius.

This location serves as the spiritual center for the Hindu community, with thousands visiting during Maha Shivaratri to perform water collection rituals and prayers. The temples and sacred structures here reflect the deep religious traditions that remain central to how locals understand their faith.

The site has parking, restrooms, and several pathways around the water for exploring. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain varies, and food vendors are available if you get hungry.

A 33-meter-tall statue of Lord Shiva stands near the entrance and is visible from far away. This colossal sculpture is one of the island's most notable religious monuments.
