Ganga Talao, Sacred lake in central Mauritius.
The crater lake sits at 700 meters elevation, encircled by hills covered in dense vegetation and temples dedicated to Hindu deities.
In the early 1900s, Hindu priest Pandit Giri Gossayne traveled from India and established the connection between this lake and the River Ganges.
During Maha Shivaratri festival, thousands of Hindu devotees walk from their homes to collect water from the lake in traditional ceremonies.
The site includes parking facilities, food vendors, restrooms, and multiple pathways around the water for visitors to explore the temples.
A 33-meter-tall statue of Lord Shiva stands near the entrance, marking this location as the most important Hindu site in Mauritius.
