Trou Aux Cerfs Volcano Park, park in Mauritius
Trou Aux Cerfs Volcano Park is a nature park in Curepipe centered around a large extinct crater. The grounds are covered with grass and small trees, with paths that circle the crater rim and offer sweeping views over the town and surrounding countryside.
The crater formed thousands of years ago during the island's early volcanic phase. The volcano has been dormant for a very long time, and today its layered rock structures tell the story of Mauritius's geological past.
The park's name refers to the deer that once inhabited this area. Locals use the space as a gathering point for leisure, where people come to step away from daily routines and connect with the natural surroundings.
The well-maintained paths are easy to walk and allow for leisurely strolls or jogging around the crater rim. Wearing comfortable shoes is important, and it is wise to bring water, especially on warmer days, since shade is limited along the trails.
On clear days, the view from the crater edge stretches all the way to the coast and ocean, making it an excellent spot for photographs. Occasionally a small lake forms in the crater depression, adding an extra natural element to the landscape.
