Dziani Dzaha

Dziani Dzaha is a crater lake located on Petite Terre island at about 6 meters above sea level. The water is surrounded by steep cliffs that form a natural rim and separate the lake from the rest of the island.

The lake formed through volcanic activity millions of years ago, creating a distinct geological formation. This origin shaped the landscape of Petite Terre island in a permanent way.

Local inhabitants maintain traditional customs near the lake, incorporating it into community gatherings and social activities throughout the year.

Visiting requires preparation for moderate hiking conditions around the lake. Weekday visits mean fewer people are present, making for a more relaxed experience.

The water contains submerged lava caves and displays rare chemical cycles not found in typical ocean environments. These unusual conditions make the lake an interesting place for observing natural processes.
