Forodhani Gardens, Urban park at Stone Town waterfront, Tanzania
Forodhani Gardens features walkways along the seafront, with green spaces and benches offering views of the Indian Ocean and passing boats.
The gardens were established in 1936 to mark Sultan Khalifa's Silver Jubilee, with a ceremonial arch added in 1956 for Princess Margaret's visit.
Every evening, local vendors set up food stalls serving Zanzibari specialties including grilled seafood, samosas, sugar cane juice, and traditional snacks.
The gardens remain open throughout the day, with the food market starting at 6 PM, located next to the House of Wonders and Old Fort.
A restoration project in 2009 by the Aga Khan Trust invested 3 million dollars to upgrade the seawall, lighting systems, and drainage infrastructure.
