Kiambu County, Administrative county in Central Province, Kenya
Kiambu County is an administrative division in Central Province, Kenya, located near Nairobi and covering highlands, midlands, and farming areas. The region features rolling green hills, cropland, and scattered settlements linked by an extensive road network.
The area was established as Kiambu Native District Council in 1925 and took its name from the sounds of tribal clashes between local groups and Maasai. Over the following decades, the region evolved from a rural administrative unit into a county with greater self-governance.
Residents grow coffee and tea on small farms spread across the volcanic soil, and these crops shape daily routines and work patterns. Dairy cattle graze on green pastures between the fields, and milk production forms part of the local economy alongside farming.
The region includes public and private healthcare facilities spread across different zones, making medical services accessible throughout the area. Roads connect communities to each other and allow travel to neighboring regions and Nairobi.
Temperatures stay relatively even throughout the year, allowing crops to grow without prolonged dry spells. Two rainy seasons provide regular water to the fields and support continuous farming activity.
