Semurup Hot Spring

Semurup Hot Spring is a natural thermal spring in Air Panas with water heated to steam temperatures and rich in sulfurous minerals across its 76 square meter surface. The spring maintains constant warmth through underground geothermal activity, creating visible steam above the water.

Volcanic activity beneath Kerinci Regency formed this thermal spring, which later became a recognized destination in Jambi province. The geothermal processes feeding the spring connect it to the broader volcanic landscape of the area.

Local people use the spring for traditional natural healing practices and as a meeting place, continuing wellness customs passed down through generations. The water holds meaning as both a therapeutic and social center in the community.

Visitors should bring personal care items and plan to arrive in the morning when outdoor temperatures are more moderate. Wear shoes with good grip since the area around the spring can be slippery from the moisture.

The water appears to boil constantly, but the steam comes from deep underground geothermal processes rather than being heated on a stove. This continuous natural display makes it a striking place to observe how the earth creates its own heat source.
