Kerinci Seblat National Park extends across 13,791 square kilometers of land, encompassing sections of West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra provinces.
The national park emerged from multiple watershed protection forests and nature reserves in 1982, receiving formal border confirmation in the late 1990s.
Local communities near the park maintain traditional practices, including regular festivals that feature rice planting dances and ceremonies honoring village ancestors.
The optimal period for visiting spans from May to September during the dry season, with guided tours available for wildlife observation and mountain hiking.
The park contains Mount Kerinci, rising 3,805 meters as Southeast Asia's highest active volcano, and houses the largest population of Sumatran tigers.
