140 St Georges Terrace, Modern skyscraper in Central Business District, Perth, Australia
140 St Georges Terrace is a 30-story tower of glass and steel that rises above St Georges Terrace with office spaces offering views across Perth's skyline. The building houses fourteen elevators, parking for vehicles, and contemporary work environments with employee facilities.
The building was completed in 1975, replacing an earlier structure from 1915 that had marked the skyline for decades. It served as Perth's tallest structure briefly before another tower surpassed it the following year.
A bronze statue weighing 910 kilograms depicting family values stood atop the original AMP Chambers before being relocated to Herdsman Lake.
The building can be accessed easily and is straightforward to navigate, with modern elevators and parking available on-site. Visitors should note it functions as an active business center, so the best times to explore are outside regular work hours.
The tower was engineered with a central service core and columns positioned at the perimeter, creating open floor plates without interior support columns. This clever design allowed businesses to reconfigure their spaces freely and adapt layouts to their needs.
