Capitol Theatre, Perth, Art Nouveau theatre in Perth, Australia
The Capitol Theatre was an Art Nouveau building in Perth with a striking illuminated facade facing William Street. It featured seating arranged across multiple levels, making it one of the larger entertainment venues in the city.
The building was designed and opened in 1929 by architects George Temple-Poole and Christian Frederik Mouritzen. It remained a major entertainment venue for Perth until its demolition in 1968.
The theatre hosted performances by renowned musicians and stage actors throughout its years of operation. Visitors experienced both film screenings and live shows in a space designed to showcase such entertainment.
The theatre was easily accessible from the street and offered different seating options depending on preference. Visitors could choose between different vantage points to enjoy performances.
A massive chandelier filled with hundreds of lights graced the interior of the building with considerable sparkle. After demolition, this decorative piece was relocated to another significant theatre in a different city, where it remains on display.
