West Lombok

West Lombok is an administrative region on the western part of Lombok Island, featuring protected forests, agricultural lands, and coastal zones. The territory combines forested hills with farmed areas and small settlements spread across the landscape.

The region became an independent regency in 1958 and later moved its administrative center to Gerung. These changes shaped how the area developed and organized itself over the following decades.

The population includes Sasak, Balinese, Javanese, and people from other nearby islands, with residents speaking both Sasak language and Indonesian every day. This mix of languages reflects how different communities have lived and worked together for generations.

The region is served by Lombok International Airport, and Tanjung Lembar port provides ferry and boat connections to neighboring islands. These two transportation points are the main gateways for most visitors arriving or leaving the area.

The region protects large forest areas that shelter rare plants and animals important to the local environment. These forests offer visitors a chance to explore less-visited natural areas away from the busier tourist zones.
