Kelingking Beach, Coastal viewpoint at Nusa Penida, Indonesia
Kelingking Beach is a white sand beach situated beneath limestone cliffs that resemble a T-Rex shape, with turquoise waters meeting the Indian Ocean at the shoreline. The coastal formation features distinctive geological layers and rock patterns along its entire length.
Before 2017, this location was known as Karag Dawa and remained largely unknown, accessible only by boat from neighboring areas. Tourist discovery transformed it from a secluded spot into a recognized destination.
Local people named this cliff Kelingking, meaning pinkie finger in Indonesian, based on how the rock formation resembles that shape. This naming reveals how communities read and interpret the natural landscape through familiar comparisons.
Reaching the beach requires a steep descent down challenging stairs, taking about two hours for the complete round trip, so wear sturdy footwear. Bring plenty of water, as the return climb is particularly demanding and exposed to sun.
A large natural cave sits at the far end of the beach, offering shade and shelter from the intense tropical sun. Many visitors overlook this cave even though it provides a cool refuge during the hottest parts of the day.

Walking routes in Bali traverse rice terraces, waterfalls and temple complexes, offering access to the island's varied landscape and cultural sites. The trails range from the sculpted rice paddies of Tegallalang and Jatiluwih to the clifftop setting of Uluwatu Temple and the volcanic slopes of Mount Batur. Visitors will find a network of paths through traditional villages, water gardens and highland areas. The routes include the rolling rice landscapes of Sidemen Valley, forest trails to Sekumpul and Banyumala waterfalls, and the Campuhan Ridge Walk through Ubud. Many paths connect natural features with cultural landmarks such as Gunung Kawi, Tirta Gangga and the rural village of Penglipuran. The coastal walks of Nusa Penida, including Kelingking Beach and Angel's Billabong, provide access to cliffs and sheltered coves along the shoreline.
Bali offers diverse natural formations and religious sites. From coastal cliffs at Broken Beach to ancient temples at Pura Luhur Lempuyang, the island contains waterfalls, beaches, and rice fields. The Jatiluwih terraces show agricultural heritage while temples like Gunung Kawi present historical architecture. Natural pools at Angel's Billabong and coral reefs at Blue Lagoon display marine environments.
