Central Lombok

Central Lombok is an administrative region occupying the middle section of Lombok Island, with Praya serving as its main administrative center and local hub. The area connects coastal zones with mountainous terrain and functions as a significant trade center for surrounding communities.

The region was established as an independent administrative entity on August 9, 1958, marking a significant shift in local governance. This reorganization enabled more efficient administration and better support for the local population across the area.

The Sasak people represent the main ethnic group in Central Lombok, maintaining their traditional practices, language, and customs throughout the twelve districts.

Visitors can reach the region through Praya, which offers good transportation connections to other parts of the island. Accommodations are available in several towns and provide access to local trekking routes and beaches.

Kuta Beach in this region hosts an annual festival where locals harvest sea worms using traditional methods passed down through generations. The event reveals fishing practices tied to tidal cycles and seasonal patterns that have shaped life here for centuries.
