Setiabudi, Urban district in South Jakarta, Indonesia
Setiabudi is an urban district in South Jakarta spanning several hundred hectares with a mix of residential neighborhoods and commercial zones. Its main streets are lined with offices, banks, and retail shops that serve the local community and workforce.
Development of the district began in the 1950s following Indonesia's independence, establishing it as one of Jakarta's earliest residential neighborhoods. Construction progressed throughout the 1960s, gradually bringing residential and commercial structures into being.
The district took its name from Ernest Douwes Dekker, an independence activist of mixed Indonesian heritage who adopted the name Danudirdja Setiabudi. His legacy continues to define how residents understand their neighborhood.
The area is well connected by public transit through the Manggarai Bus Terminal, which links TransJakarta corridors and KRL commuter trains. A skywalks system ties these transit hubs together, making transfers between different modes straightforward.
The district forms part of Jakarta's Golden Triangle, with the Mega Kuningan area housing a notable concentration of skyscrapers and modern buildings. This cluster of high-rises has transformed it into a major business and financial center.
