Tangerang–Merak Toll Road, Transportation corridor in Banten, Indonesia.
The Tangerang–Merak Toll Road is a major toll expressway that links the industrial city of Tangerang with the port of Merak, spanning over 70 kilometers across western Java. The route passes through several significant towns and regions, with ten toll stations and multiple entrance and exit points that manage traffic flow.
Construction of the toll road began in 1992 under a Build-Operate-Transfer scheme, bringing private companies into the project planning and management. This early development helped expand infrastructure across western Java and strengthen economic connections in the region.
The highway infrastructure includes six rest areas featuring prayer rooms and local food establishments, reflecting Indonesian customs and daily practices.
Electronic payment systems operate at all ten toll stations, making passage easier and helping avoid long queues. Six rest areas are spread along the route, providing refreshments, bathrooms, and rest spaces for drivers needing a break.
A notable section was raised 2.5 to 2.7 meters to prevent flooding at the Ciujung River plain during monsoon season. This engineering solution shows how the infrastructure was adapted to handle the natural challenges of the region.
