Pertamina Energy Tower, Sustainable skyscraper in South Jakarta, Indonesia
The Pertamina Energy Tower is a 523 meter tall skyscraper with 99 floors, featuring a tapered crown designed to funnel wind through the structure. The building houses offices, a 2,000-seat auditorium, exhibition spaces, and covered walkways with integrated solar panels throughout the complex.
Construction of this headquarters for Indonesia's state oil corporation Pertamina began in 2020, following delays caused by fluctuations in global oil markets. The project emerged from the company's need for a modern workplace that could consolidate its operations and serve multiple functions.
The tower blends contemporary design with Indonesian architectural elements and hosts performances, exhibitions, and religious ceremonies in its spaces. A prayer room serves both workers and visitors throughout the day.
The building is accessible through multiple entrances and offers clear orientation points inside for visitors to navigate. Connected walkways allow comfortable movement between different areas without needing to go outside between sections.
The building's tapered crown houses wind turbines that generate electricity from passing air currents, allowing it to produce much of its own power. This dual energy system combining wind and solar makes it one of the few large office towers in the region pursuing near-zero operational energy consumption.
