Pasar Senen railway station, Central railway station in Senen district, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Pasar Senen is a mainline railway station in the district of the same name in central Jakarta, serving trains to destinations across Java. Six covered platforms with multiple tracks handle trains of different classes, including commuter services for the metropolitan area.
The original station opened in 1887 to serve the eastern line of the colonial railway network. The present terminal building arose as a replacement and entered service in 1925.
The name comes from the surrounding district, an older trading area once known for its large market. Travelers today see the steep roof shape and wide arched doorways that make the building a recognizable point in the cityscape.
The platforms lie behind the entrance hall and are reached by stairs or underpasses. Those transferring from other transport modes find bus stops and urban rail access within walking distance of the main entrance.
Two tunnels beneath the tracks allow passengers to move between platforms without crossing the rails. This solution was an innovation in the railway system of the country at the time of construction and remains in use today.
