History
The town was founded when President Sukarno laid the cornerstone on November 3, 1957, on land that had belonged to Amahai village. This act marked the formal beginning of the settlement as the region's administrative center.

The name Masohi comes from the Central Maluku language and expresses the idea of people working together as a community. This spirit of cooperation remains visible in how different groups live and interact in the town today.
