Central Maluku

Masohi is the administrative capital of Central Maluku on Seram Island and spreads along the southern coast across five urban neighborhoods: Ampera, Lesane, Letwaru, Namaelo, and Namasina. The town functions as the regional hub connecting the island to neighboring territories.

The town was founded when President Sukarno laid the cornerstone on November 3, 1957, on land that had belonged to Amahai village. This act marked the formal beginning of the settlement as the region's administrative center.

The name Masohi comes from the Central Maluku language and expresses the idea of people working together as a community. This spirit of cooperation remains visible in how different groups live and interact in the town today.

The town has a local airport with flights to Ambon and the Banda Islands, plus a port connecting to Saparua and surrounding regions. These transport facilities make it easy for travelers to reach the area and explore further.

The area was shaped by migration waves as people from Saparua and mountain residents from other parts of Seram settled here. These population movements created the diverse makeup of the town over several generations.
