Little Desert National Park

Little Desert National Park extends over 132,647 hectares of sandy terrain, containing woodlands, heathlands, and sand ridges across three distinct geographical blocks.

The area transformed from pastoral grounds in the 1840s to a World War II bombing range before becoming a protected national park in December 1968.

The Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia, and Jupagalk peoples maintain strong connections to this land, which holds deep ancestral significance.

The park features multiple camping sites, walking tracks, and four-wheel drive paths, though internal roads may close during winter months due to weather conditions.

The park serves as a designated Important Bird Area, supporting over 200 bird species, including the malleefowl which builds large mound nests in the sand.
