Portsea, Coastal suburb in Mornington Peninsula, Australia.

Portsea sits between Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait, featuring both sheltered northern beaches and strong southern surf beaches along its coastline.

The settlement received its name in 1840 from James Sandle Ford, who was granted land upon arrival from his English hometown of Portsea.

The Bunurong people maintain traditional ownership of the Portsea region, with their heritage represented through the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation.

The Portsea Surf Life Saving Club patrols the Back Beach during summer months due to strong water conditions and high waves.

Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared while swimming near Cheviot Beach in December 1967, marking a significant event in Australian political history.
