The City of Merri-bek spans 51 square kilometers across multiple suburbs, including Brunswick, Coburg, and Fawkner, serving a population of over 180,000 residents.
Established in 1994 through the merger of Brunswick, Coburg, and southern Broadmeadows municipalities, the area underwent a name change from Moreland to Merri-bek in 2022.
The Counihan Gallery at Brunswick Town Hall presents regular exhibitions of contemporary art, while Sydney Road hosts numerous street festivals throughout the year.
The municipal administration operates five library branches and provides essential services including waste collection, maternal health care, and youth programs.
In 2013, Merri-bek installed Victoria's first electric vehicle fast charging station, leading the way in sustainable transportation infrastructure.
