Shire of Cardinia

The Shire of Cardinia is an administrative division covering the southeastern fringe of greater Melbourne, stretching from coastal areas near Western Port to the forested hills of the Yarra Ranges. The region blends suburban neighborhoods, farmland, and protected natural areas across its territory.

The shire came into being in 1994 through a merger combining Pakenham Shire with sections of Sherbrooke Shire and Cranbourne City. This administrative reorganization established the framework for local governance that continues today.

The nine distinct wards of Cardinia maintain local representation through individual councilors who serve their communities and participate in municipal decision-making.

The administration center in Officer serves residents with services including waste management, road maintenance, and planning approvals. Visitors can also find information about community programs and local events at these facilities.
