Odeon Theatre, Performance venue in central Hobart, Australia
The Odeon Theatre stands at 167 Liverpool Street, featuring Federation Free Classical architecture with checkered parapet, decorative cornices, and leadlight windows.
Opening in 1916 as the Strand Theatre, the venue became Tasmania's first cinema equipped with a Wurlitzer organ and operated until 1970.
The building transformed from a silent film cinema to a recording studio for ABC Radio and later became a concert space for the Tasmania Symphony Orchestra.
Located at the intersection of Liverpool Street and Watchorn Street, the theater maintains a capacity of 1,690 seats for contemporary performances.
The theater's original design incorporated electrical ticketing machines and projection equipment from Britain, establishing new standards for Australian entertainment venues.
