Wineglass Bay, Coastal bay in Freycinet National Park, Tasmania, Australia

Wineglass Bay is a curved inlet in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania, nestled between pink granite mountains. The white sand slopes gently into turquoise water that meets the Tasman Sea.

The bay was named in the 1820s by whalers who first came to these waters. European explorers found the place appealing and gave it its distinctive name.

The Pydairrerme people shaped the coastline through their long presence and relationship with the sea and land. Their connection to this place remains woven into the landscape itself.

The lookout is reached by a steep walking trail that takes about two hours. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the path climbs steadily uphill.

Sea eagles soar above the granite cliffs while dolphins swim in the waters below, bringing together mountain and ocean ecosystems. This spot is one of the few places where you can see these two worlds meet so closely.
