Wilsons Promontory Marine Reserve

Wilsons Promontory Marine Reserve is a protected coastal zone in South Gippsland, Victoria, covering roughly 15,500 hectares of ocean. Beneath the surface lie granite cliffs and sprawling sponge gardens that create a distinctive underwater landscape.

The reserve was established in 1986 by Victoria's Department of Environment as a key milestone in Australian marine protection. This decision reflected growing efforts to safeguard ocean habitats across the country.

Australian fur seals live in colonies throughout the waters, and seabirds nest here in large numbers. These animals are woven into the character of the coast and what you see when you visit.

Diving and snorkeling spots are scattered throughout the area, with Norman Beach serving as a main access point. Guided tours help visitors navigate the large expanse and explore the offshore islands more effectively.

Weedy Seadragons and Eastern Blue Gropers are found here among colorful coral formations and sea-tulip gardens. These creatures are elusive and make each dive an adventure to hunt for them.
