Mount Stirling

Mount Stirling is a mountain summit in Victoria's High Country featuring a loop trail that winds about 16 kilometers through sub-alpine forests and reaches 1,749 meters in elevation. The path passes through changing vegetation and different landscape types as it gains height.

The area saw settlement during early alpine exploration, as shown by old huts along the trails from that period. These structures date to when schools and adventurers began using the mountain region.

The summit area shows how people connect with alpine landscapes through hiking and seasonal sports activities. Visitors notice how locals and tourists use these high slopes as a place for outdoor recreation throughout the year.

Snowshoes are needed from June to September to walk safely on frozen and snow-covered trails. The best time for hiking without extra equipment is October to May, when conditions are more stable.

The trail passes through different vegetation zones where plant species grow that are found only in the Australian Alps. These rare plants exist nowhere else in Australia or the world.
