Charlotte Pass, Ski resort in Snowy Mountains, Australia.
Charlotte Pass is a ski resort in the Snowy Mountains at an elevation of 1,765 meters (5,791 feet) and offers five lifts along with 19 marked runs. The terrain spans around 50 hectares and sits higher than any other skiing destination across Australia.
The resort takes its name from Charlotte Adams, who in 1881 became the first European woman to summit Mount Kosciuszko. The naming reflects her pioneering mountaineering achievement and connection to this high mountain region.
The Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel, constructed in 1930, stands as the central structure of the resort, providing accommodations and dining services throughout winter.
During winter, the resort is accessible only through specialized snow transport vehicles that depart from nearby Perisher Valley and navigate snow-covered roads. Plan for completely snowy conditions and rely on arranged transport, as the high elevation means snow coverage year-round.
The resort records some of Australia's coldest temperatures, dropping to around minus 23 degrees Celsius (minus 9 degrees Fahrenheit). These extreme cold conditions arise from the high elevation and create an unusually alpine climate for the continent.
