District of Tuggeranong, Administrative district in southeast Canberra, Australia.
Tuggeranong district spans 117 square kilometers east of the Murrumbidgee River, containing residential suburbs, commercial centers, and natural reserves.
The area received its name from the Ngunnawal language, with the first European settlement established in 1827 when James Murdoch acquired a land grant.
The Tuggeranong Community Council organizes monthly meetings and environmental initiatives, including regular Lake Tuggeranong clean-up events with local volunteer groups.
The district features the South.Point shopping center, government offices, industrial zones, and Lake Tuggeranong, serving a population of 89,461 residents.
The original planning for Tuggeranong in 1973 projected a population capacity between 180,000 to 220,000 people, far exceeding current inhabitant numbers.
