Gibraltar Peak

Gibraltar Peak is a 1038-meter summit located in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve offering sweeping views of the Australian Capital Territory from a constructed observation point. Two hiking routes lead to the top, departing from the same starting location with different lengths and difficulty levels.

The peak gained notice as a climbing destination in the 1970s when Australian mountaineers developed multiple routes on its rock faces. These early climbing routes helped establish it as a notable destination for outdoor enthusiasts in the region.

The mountain holds spiritual significance for the Ngunnawal people, whose connection to this land shaped the region for countless generations. Visitors walking the trails today move through a landscape that carries deep meaning for its original custodians.

The peak is accessible via two main walking trails that both start from Dalsetta car park, allowing visitors to choose based on their fitness level and available time. The area is best visited during daylight hours to fully enjoy the views and safely navigate the terrain.

The hiking trail constructed in 2012 immediately captured visitor interest, drawing more than 400 hikers within its first two weeks of operation. This rapid popularity demonstrates how quickly the site became a favored destination for the local outdoor community.
