Namadgi National Park

Namadgi National Park is a large nature reserve in the Australian Capital Territory made up of mountains, boggy highlands, and eucalyptus forests. The landscape rises and falls across open peaks dotted with dense woodland, cut through by several valleys with flowing water.

The protected area was founded in 1984 to preserve the mountains and forests. A major fire in 2020 damaged much of the park and changed how the landscape looks.

Indigenous peoples lived on this land for thousands of years and left their marks. Rock paintings and fire sites scattered throughout the park tell the story of their deep connection to the country.

A visitor center on site offers maps and information about the area. A large network of walking trails and biking routes means you can enter from different points and should plan flexibly.

The area holds special boggy zones that store water and feed into the water supply of the nearby city. These highland bogs are home to rare plants and animals found nowhere else.
