Golden Vale, Sutton Forest, Heritage farm estate in Sutton Forest, Australia
Golden Vale is a rural estate spanning 560 hectares of farmland near Sutton Forest, dedicated to cattle farming. The two-storey sandstone house features balanced window placement and a sloped metal roof, with preserved gardens and aviaries situated across the grounds.
The land was granted to ex-convict Thomas Wilmott in 1842, then purchased by Edward Carter in 1857 for farming purposes. This ownership change launched the property's development into a substantial agricultural enterprise.
The estate served as a gathering place for annual kangaroo hunts in the late 1800s, drawing participants from across the region. These events became important social occasions that connected the scattered rural communities of the surrounding area.
Public access to the property has been restricted since 2018 for conservation reasons. The closure ensures the preservation of both the buildings and the surrounding landscape for future generations.
The homestead blends Georgian architectural style with cedar wood interiors and maintains English-style gardens complete with aviaries for native parrots. This combination of European design with Australian wildlife represents an uncommon fusion of influences on the property.
